Addiscombe Councillors have met with Menta to express some concerns at the proposed 53 storey high skyscraper in Cherry Orchard Road.

The Menta developers are aspiring to build a String of Diamond shaped buildings along one side of the road with additional buildings on the Cherry Orchard Gardens site. Although imaginative and of striking design your Councillors want to ensure that residents in nearby roads will not be overlooked, overshadowed and overcrowded.
The chair of Governors at Oval School has also expressed her concern at the development and its possible impact on the school. Although the development will lead to the regeneration of Cherry Orchard Road local residents have raised questions concerning the access to the taxi rank and the impact on East Croydon. With no definitive plan by Network Rail to regenerate the station and with the Gateway development also in the pipeline careful consideration must be taken as to how the station will be able cope with the increased capacity.
Menta has been consulting with residents and the Council’s Planning Department over the proposed development and will be submitting their full planning application in September. Your Councillors will continue to meet with them to discuss the issues raised and to express residents’ concerns. Whilst the regeneration of Cherry Orchard Road is welcomed the Councillors aim to minimise the impact of the proposed skyscrapers on Addiscombe and are therefore calling for a cap on tall buildings in their ward.
